Last Night in New York Sports

Yankees-3 Indians-5

It was a tough night for Yankees' fans. A strong start by Andy Pettitte, solid relief work by the goggled one Kyle Farnsworth, a potentially slump-busting double by Jason Giambi, and an RBI for Robinson Cano were all put to waste when David Delluci(?) hit a three-run pinch-hit home run off of Joba Chamberlain in the 8th inning that give the Indians the lead for good. There were a lot of positives to take out of last nights game, among them a quality start from Pettitte and a solid effort offensively-6 hits in 5 innings off of Fausto Carmona who is having another great season. It may be too early to worry about Joba, but I am a little concerned, he has already given up more than twice as many runs as last season (5 to 2) in about half of the innings (13 to 23). Hopefully this is not a trend.

Mets-4 Dodgers-5

It was a tough night for Mets' fans too. As you watched Blake DeWitt round third base, all you could think was, "I can't believe this is actually happening." It did. The day after he hit his first Major League homerun, DeWitt hit his first Major League inside-the-park-homerun, a two-run-homer to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning. After four more innings from the bullpen to finish up a night in which Dodgers relievers threw 5.2 scoreless innings, Joe Torre's team concluded a 5-4 victory, winning its 10th of 11 games. Positives for Mets' fans? Aaron Heilman seems to be coming around, as he has thrown four consecutive scoreless outings.
